The fifth round of Open RBR-LT WRC 2020 in Turkey was no easier than Rally Estonia. From 36 participants that started the event, only 12 reached the finish of Rally Turkey. The last four stages of day three was most challenging ones, because half of the drivers that started the last day didn't reached the finish.
This was not an issue for our championship debutante Roni Lotjonen. The last stages Finn drove well and stably by winning three of them and just in the last one he lost to Libor Tomoecek due to aero damage and lack of car control. "Got front aero damage from last stage, massive understeer. For a debut rally this went pretty well, I am happy with my performance. Thanks!",- Roni shared his emotions after winning in his debut rally. Libor Tomecek hasn't made any big mistakes and kept a 2nd place with 2 minutes and 45.13 seconds gap from rally winner. Rally Estonia winner Jan Gais had had to be pleased with a 3rd place as WRC drivers was more stable this time.
However Jan demonstrated amazing speed with his R5 Citroen and as You can guess he won WRC 2 category. It was a tight fight with Echedei Benitez and Spaniard could have been won against Jan, but technical issues didn't led him to finish the last day. Pitty for Benitez as this was unexpectedly stable driving for him, but contratulations to Jan. This is what Slovakian spoke after his second WRC 2 win in a row,- "Next very long and difficult rally, I have to be happy despite that I will probably be second in class. Thanks organizers." Mirek Woronecki overcome Engenyi Panyushink in a fight for 2nd place as Vilius Šaltenis retired in demanding many lives SS11. Pole lost over 4 minutes to Jan and beat Evgenyi by 22.20 seconds.
Fight for victory in JUNIOR WRC classification ended in first run of Cetibeli special stage. Maciej Zawisza made a mistake that cost him almost a minute to Nazaryi Lebed and Pole immediately lost his first place. Then again he made a mistake in a same stage on a second run and lost even more time, which made him to finish in a second place with 2min 37.97sec loss for Lebed. "This rally is not easy, but finish and is OK! I am happy (smiles)",- Nazaryi agreed that this rally was tough again but was in good mood after finishing it with win in JUNIOR WRC. Oleksandr Pidlusky picked up a 3rd place with more than 8 minutes gap from winner and leaving class leader Jyrki Niemela behind him with massive lost time due Super Rally.
While championship leader Remus Diaconescu finished low in 8th place and grabbed some points in Power Stage we gonna see Jan Gais getting closer to 1st place in championship standings. Two weeks later we gonna meet in mixed event Rally Italia Sardegna which can mix things up even more. See You there!
